Senator Menendez Submits Resignation Notice

He will step down from office on August 20.

Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey will step down from his office on August 20th after being convicted on federal charges of bribery and corruption.

“I have never been anything but a patriot of my country and for my country,” Senator Menendez said outside the Manhattan courthouse. “I have never, ever been a foreign agent. And the decision arrived to by the jury today would put at risk every member of the United States Senate in terms of what they think a foreign agent would be.”

The Senate Ethics Committee had begun an investigation into the senator’s actions that could have led to discipline or expulsion had he not resigned. Senator Menendez has filed to run for reelection as an independent, should he be exonerated.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Senator Menendez as he continues to serve in his office in the coming weeks.
  • For members of the Senate Ethics Committee as they review the senator’s actions and determine whether he will receive classified briefings during his remaining time in office.
